Asclepias Perennis, Aquatic Milkweed

Asclepias Perennis 

One of our favorite native Gulf Coast milkweeds. Grows well in the shade and sun and blooms for a long period. This is the native milkweed we typically recommend the most because of it's easiness to grow, versatility, and seed availability. Unlike other milkweed species, aquatic milkweed does not have any floss or fluff around the seeds, making them very easy to collect. They also do not need a cold stratification period to germinate, and typically germinate in 7-10 days in good conditions. Occurs naturally in floodplain swamps, marshes and along riverbanks, and thrives in a standard pollinator garden or container garden. Host plant to the Monarch butterfly.
